Client: Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute
Together with our colleagues, Wolfe Words, we announced the awarding of the prestigious Fields Medal to leading Australian mathematician, Professor Terence Tao. The Fields Medal is considered to be the Nobel Prize of Mathematics and this was the first time an Australian has won this award. The story featured nationally on the Sunrise program, ABC and Channels 7, 9 and 10 evening news and the ABC 7.30 Report. More than 40 commercial and ABC radio programs around Australia ran news items and/or interviews. Metropolitan and regional press coverage around Australia was extensive, with features about Professor Tao in The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, Herald Sun, Canberra Times, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Adelaide Advertiser and others as well as saturation coverage in metro and regional press nationally. The Terry Tao story also generated debate in the media about the value given to maths education in Australia.

PR Matters has worked with our network affiliates on several other campaigns for the AMSI.
